Little crochet doily pouch

Will hold a deck of cards, or Pokemon cards if your kids are into that sort of thing. Yesterday my son came home from school having completed his first Poke-trades. He didn’t make out very well, but he may have learned something (I hope).

Anyway, the pouch he had been using I had made him a while ago for his little rock collection. It is now too small to accommodate his growing Pokecard collection, so I made this one.

I used whatever yarns I had that had blue in them which is why this pouch is very multicoloured.

I got the pattern here

You will need yarn in 8ply and a 4mm hook. I used cotton, but acrylic or wool would work too. These instructions are in US terms.

To make the purse chain 22, turn and half double crochet (hdc) in the third stitch from the hook and each stitch across (20hdc). Chain 2, turn and hdc in each stitch across the row. Keep working back and forth (remembering to ch 2 at the end of each row) until you have a rectangle approximately 20cm long. I made this bag with stripes, alternating two rows in each color – and 4 rows (rows 8-10) at the bottom of the bag (where you fold it). I sc the sides together but you could just sew them.

I did change a few things in the doily part.

To make the doily flap:

1. No Magic Circle because Google can’t teach me how to do it.

2. Ch 5, 9 dc in first ch. Join with a ss to complete the round (10 DC).

3. CH3, DC in same stitch, 2DC in each remaining stitch around, join with a ss to complete the round (20DC).

4. CH3, DC in next stitch, CH2. *DC in next 2 stitches, CH 2* repeat between * and * around, join with a ss to complete the round (10 x 2DC pairs).

5. SS to 2ch space. CH3, DC, CH3, 2DC into same space. *2DC into next space, ch3, 2DC into same space* repeat between * and * around, join with a ss to complete the round.little crochet doily bag 26. Change color and join yarn in a 3ch space.

6. CH3, DC 3 into first 3ch space, *ch 1, DC4 into each remaining 3ch space* around, join with a ss to complete the round. Fasten off and sew in all ends. (I found that anything more than 4 dc pulled at the doily too much and wouldn’t have made a good flap).

Attach doily to back of purse, approximately one third of the way down. Carefully sew in place. Add button to the front.
