Milk jug ring flower free crochet pattern

I knew there should be a way to reuse even the plastic ring that attaches the cap to the milk jug and I finally found it on Pinterest! You crochet a flower around the ring.

I’m going to slip the flower around my daughter’s ponytail.

Here is where I got the pattern:

And here’s the pattern:
Round 1) Join yarn with a sl st around 2” plastic ring, ch 1, 36 sc around ring, join with a sl st to beg sc. Do not turn. (36 sc)

NOTE: Either the ring I had was too small or my yarn too thick but I could only get 24 sc, a multiple of 6 as well, into the ring. Not a problem, rounds 2 and 3 are done exactly the same.

Round 2) Ch 1, sc in same st, ch 2,* sk next st, sc in next st, ch 2*, repeat from * to * around, join with a sl st to beg sc. Do not turn. (18 sc, 18 ch-2 spaces)

Round 3) 5 dc in first ch-2 space, sk next sc,* sl st in next ch-2 sp, sk next sc, 5 dc in next ch-2 sp, sk next sc*, repeat from * to * around, ending with a sl st in last ch-2 sp. End off, weave in ends.

To Finish: Cut a strand of red yarn, weave through the ch-2 openings, and tie into a bow.
