I’m calling this The Petal Dress.

Again, apart from the 30 sc around the elastic, the entire rest of the pattern is copyrighted by me, Anna Merlini. You can use it to make your own Barbie sundresses if you give me credit for the pattern and link back to this blog. You can’t use my pattern to make Barbie dresses to sell.

You will need one hair elastic 1 inch in diameter, 2 different coloured yarns (or three, as I used), and #4 and #7 crochet hooks.

The bodice and petal part (pink and green) are crocheted in the round in one piece and into the BACK LOOPS ONLY of each sc and hdc.

Bodice

Rnd 1- Using the #4 hook, put 30 sc in the elastic, join to first sc with sl st. After this there will be no joining so you may want to mark the end of your rounds.
Rnd 2- hdc in first sc, 2 hdc in next sc. (hdc in first 2 sc, 2 hdc in next sc) around. 40 hdc
Rnd 3- hdc in ea hdc around. 40 hdc
Rnd 4- (hdc in first 2 hdc, hdc2tog) around. 30 hdc *NOTE: to hdc2tog, hook yarn over needle, dip into the back loop of the hdc, pull up yarn (like a normal hdc so far) but don’t pull it through the loops on the needle. Dip hook into back loop of 2nd hdc, wrap yarn, pull through, now pull yarn through all 4 loops on needle.
Rnds 5-9: hdc in ea hdc around

Switch to #7 hook but remain in back loops only
Rnd 10- hdc in ea hdc around
Rnd 11- (hdc in first 2 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) around. 40 hdc
Rnd 12- hdc in ea hdc around.
Rnd 13- (hdc in first 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) around. 50 hdc
Rnd 14- hdc in ea hdc around.
Rnd 15- (hdc in first 4 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) around. 60 hdc
Rnd 16- Sc in ea hdc around, sl st last 4 hdc. Finish and weave in ends.

To add the skirt

Turn dress inside out. Attach yarn in second colour to what amounts to the front loops of the 2nd row done with the #7 hook (the increase to 40 hdc row). Hdc in ea hdc around. Make sure that the right side will be facing out when you turn the dress right side out.

I am actually going in the wrong direction in this photo.

With the dress inside out, you should be crocheting in the other direction.
Rnd 2- (hdc in first 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) around. 50 hdc
Rnds 3-4: hdc in ea hdc around
Rnd 5- (hdc in first 4 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) around. 60 hdc.
Continue hdc in ea hdc around until dress is long enough. Finish and weave in ends. It works out to roughly 19 rounds, depending on your yarn and tension. When you are nearing the end of the last round, do 8 sc, then 4 sl st.
