Knit Barbie ballgown free pattern

Evening gown, princess dress, whatever your little darling wants to call it.

Evening gown, princess dress, whatever your little darling wants to call it.

…because necessity is the mother of invention.

Once again the internet did not contain any free patterns for Barbie princess dresses, so I made one up. It’s copyrighted by me but I give you permission to use it as long as you give me credit for it and don’t use it to sell Barbie dresses.

Barbie Evening Gown
Start at bottom. Using fuzzy yarn (purple in this case) cast on 80 sts on 3.25 mm needles. K 2 rows.

Change to main colour (teal in this case) and beginning with a K row, st st 8 rows.

(K8, K2tog) to end – 72 sts. St st 7 rows.

(K7, K2tog) to end – 64 sts. St st 7 rows.

(K6, K2tog) to end – 56 sts. St st 7 rows.

(K5, K2tog) to end – 48 sts. St st 7 rows.

(K4, K2tog) to end – 40 sts. St st 7 rows.

(K3, K2tog) to end – 32 sts. St st 5 rows.

(K4, K2tog) to last 2 sts. K last 2 sts. – 27 sts. St st 5 rows.

To make the waist:
(K5 K2tog) to last 6 sts, K4 K2tog. P 1 row.

(K4 K2tog) to last 5 sts, K3 K2tog. P 1 row.

(K3, inc in next st) to last 3 sts, K3. P 1 row.

(K4, inc in next st) to last 3 sts, K3. This makes the waist.

Continue in st st for 8 rows (end P row). Cast off.

Note: I made this gown sleeveless so my daughter can put it on and off L’allowee (the Barbie) all by herself.
2nd Note: I made a second dress but sewed beads along the bottom rather than use fuzzy yarn.
