Iced Tea Recipe

It’s Fathers’ Day and you’re a marvellous father and husband.  Your loving wife buys you an expensive tea called Caramel Comfort because you have a sweet tooth and work the night shift where drinking a warm cup of tea is the only way to survive monitoring the building.  The tea smells delicious when you crack the seal on the bag, mmm, sweet caramel; but once brewed and tasted, it loses all that made it seem so wonderful.  You swallow giant gulps, trying to make it go away faster and smile at your well-meaning wife who is making faces as she tries to drink her cup.  And that’s that.  The bag sits untouched on the counter for the next month.

Your wife, being the kind who is religiously opposed to a messy house and clutter, knows the tea will have to be used somehow, even if that means drinking every gross cup it steeps.  But Eureka!  All is not lost!  Here is an iced tea recipe to the rescue.

Take 2 cups of boiling water and steep 5 tea bags (any kind) until cool.

add 1 and 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup lemon juice and 1/2 cup cold water.

Mix.  Put 1/3 cup of this mixture (roughly) in a glass and add 3/4 cup cold water (roughly, I eyeball it).  Ready to serve.  Keep the unused mixture in the fridge although with a husband with a sweet tooth it doesn’t last long.  This is great for neighbours dropping by and goes quite nicely with a lonely shot of your favourite mixing alcohol in the hot summer evenings.
